Our global automotive OEM Client based in Coventry is searching for a Senior Clay Modeller to join their team. This is a contract position which is deemed Inside IR35, for more detail on working Inside IR35, please reach out to one of our recruitment team.
Job Description:
This is an opportunity for a Senior Clay Modeller to contribute to the development and ongoing improvement of their world class UK design operation. The candidate will be working on multiple projects, contributing to the development and ongoing improvement of our client’s world class UK Design operations.
Main Activities and Tasks:
- Lead project clay models and manage a team of up to 4 clay modellers.
- Support the Clay Modelling Manager with the timing proposals and delivery of 3D physical clay models.
- Coordinate with other lead modellers in the allocation and organisation of CNC milling heads and resources between active projects.
- Plan and prioritise own workload.
- To support the Modelling Manager in every day running of the design studio.
- Maintain Model history Pack
- Support the Clay Modelling Manager with the delivery of exterior, interior and scale 3D physical design properties.
- Work directly with the relevant design team to develop design properties for design reviews.
- Support the designers with feasible solutions to design proposals.
- Be able to utilise studio CMM equipment.
- Have a good eye for design proportions and able to work to a high standard on intricate models.
- Work directly with the Alias modelling and Studio Engineering teams to develop increase model feasibility.
- To support Clay Modelling Manager in the everyday running of studio and studio stores.
- Support Clay Modelling Manager in the production of timing and resource plans.
Other Features of Role:
- Some travel to overseas studios may be required.
Experience:
- A minimum of five years automotive OEM modelling experience is essential.
- Experience of finishing presentation models and their relevant level of quality.
- Experience working in all aspects of automotive model making.
Knowledge:
- Excellent Modelling Proficiency
- Demonstrates depth of knowledge in the automotive design process.
- Excellent communicator, with an eye for detail.
- Knowledge of armature build and construction of models.
- Capable of working directly with the alias modelling and studio engineering teams to develop physical properties.
- Complete understanding and operating knowledge of CMM Studio Machines
Qualifications:
- Vehicle Design Degree
- Wood working and workshop practises
- Strong Numeracy and Literacy
Skills:
- Generates new ideas with appropriate action plans.
- Demonstrates feasibility of ideas
- Capable of managing a project element with support from more senior staff when necessary
- Capable of working within a team environment or working alone.
