Our automotive lighting client based in Redditch is searching for a Computational Analysis Engineer on an Outside IR35 contractor basis.
Main Role:
Assist the Lead Designer to complete project work that meets both Bee Lighting and Customer requirements.
General:
- Willingness to learn and work under the supervision of a senior designer.
- Work to time constraints, handling multiple projects with minimal supervision.
- Give regular feedback on task progress to the senior designer.
- Can explain concepts & ideas verbally & in a report.
- Can study technical problems and create solutions.
- Checks own work in line with company procedure & policy.
- Able to present to team and customers.
- Observes the guidelines and procedures outlined in the Company Handbook.
Upon completion of the company and Design Dept. induction the engineer has the opportunity to advance by learning the following, while under the supervision of a senior designer:
Processes:
- Works to the prescribed design process.
- Understands and works with the company process for control of design data/information into and out of the company.
- Understands and works with the company process for controlling the change of designs.
Guides and Norms:
- Follows the company part numbering and naming convention.
- Understands and applies the company methodology for creating CAD models (and drawings).
- Observes the guides and norms available for the design of the product.
- Observes the guide and checks available for legal assessment of designs.
APQP:
- Understands the purpose and structure of the APQP process.
- Observes the correct use and content of project folders.
- Able to update and apply the project scope and technical specification.
- Contribute to resolution of the List of Open Points (LOP) and reports upon open points.
- Support submission of the Gateway Tracker deliverables and deadlines in line with the
- timing plan.
- Observes the use of the folder structure to control design development, data Release and the availability of information to other departments.
Mechanical, Tool Design & Production:
- Understands tooling and plastic moulding factors affecting design such as, tool lines, draft, parting lines, slides and material thickness.
- Understands types and application of fixing solutions.
- Understands the application of airflow vs hot & cold zones in a lamp.
- Understands types and application of ventilation.
- Understands the 3,2,1 datum strategy and the implication of tolerance stack.
- Aware of types and application of design solutions for lamp components, functionality and Finish.
- Understanding of material characteristics vs the design application.
- Understands the effect of surface finishes.
CAD Design:
- Maintains the correct use of the Bee Lighting Start Model.
- Follows the Bee Lighting Model Construction Guide.
- Fully proficient in surface, part and assembly CAD design.
- Can modify existing models and maintain the construction method.
- Understands the purpose of SC, CC and Reference dimensions.
QMS:
- Aware of the Company Quality Policy.
- Aware of the Company Objectives & Targets.
- Aware of the Bee Lighting Quality Manual.
- Aware of the Bee Lighting Organisational Chart.
- Works within the guidelines for Health and Safety.
Optical Design:
Basic recognition of the following:
- Freeform reflectors.
- Polyellypsoid (PES) Lens.
- Feznel optic.
- Reflex optic.
- Light pipes.
- Light blades.
- Pillow optics.
- Prismatic optics.
- Flutes.
- Collimating optics.
- Understands focal points vs mounting points.
- Consideration of coatings and materials.
Computational Analysis Engineering (CAE):
- Understand and follow the CAE process.
- Follows the Simulation Guide.
- Can set up and run simulations.
- Operates & maintains the Simulation Request system.
- Can modify CAD models for use in simulations.
- Can generate simulation reports.
- Can create simulations using Solidworks (thermal, vibration, load).
- Can create simulations using FloEFD.
- Can interpret simulation output and adjust the input as needed to produce useful data.
- Able to produce and import detailed PCB data.
- Understands LED thermal resistance values and how to apply them.
